Cassandra Jaramillo has already established herself as one of the country’s premiere crime and social justice reporters. Jaramillo moved into this beat from the unlikely root as a feature writer for the DMN. In her time on the features desk, she won the top prize from the Society of Features Journalism for a series of commentaries about her own immigrant experience.
“Journalism somehow found me, and I couldn’t get enough,” Jaramillo says in a profile on the Morning News’ website. “Being a reporter is a passport into so many worlds: the offices of powerful people, the living rooms of strangers’ homes and, sometimes, a front-row seat to history.”
Prior to joining the Morning News, Jarramillo was a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal, the Austin American Statesman and CNBC.com. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.
